The Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) caters to children
who fear mathematics, lack self-confidence and would like to improve their
academic marks. The programme is a short-term intervention and improves
creative problem-solving skills in numeracy. The concept was developed in
Malaysia in 1993 by Dr Dino Wong and uses a 3000-year-old invention - the
abacus - to instil a love for mathematics.
